What a season it has been so far right? So here we are the midpoint of the season and just about to kick off week 9 and who had the Los Angeles Rams at 5-2 and top 5 in the Power Rankings? The Eagles 7-1? How about the mighty offense of the New York Giants battling it out for a top 5 pick at 1-6?! Some rookie by the name of Kareem Hunt apparently knows how to run with a football and DeMarcus Lawrence appears to have figured out how to sack a QB as he is currently on pace to break Michael Strahan’s single-season sack record. I decided to take a look back and give my midseason awards out and predict who will make the playoffs later this year as well as a top 5 mock draft.
AFC Playoff Picture:
1. Pittsburgh Steelers 13-3
2. Kansas City Chiefs 13-3

4. Houston Texans 11-5
5. Buffalo Bills 10-6
6. Jacksonville Jaguars 10-6
NFC Playoff Picture:
1. Seattle Seahawks 12-4
2. Philadelphia Eagles 12-4
3. New Orleans Saints 11-5
4. Minnesota Vikings 11-5
5. Los Angeles Rams 11-5
6. Dallas Cowboys 10-6
Defensive Rookie of the Year – Marshon Lattimore CB New Orleans Saints: He barely edges out fellow CB Tre’Davious White of the Bills. Lattimore has provided a needed spark in what use to be a weak Saints secondary.
Offensive Rookie of the Year – Deshaun Watson QB Houston Texans: In 6 games as a starter Watson has thrown 19 TD passes and 1,699 yards and has made everyone forget about the dubious 59 MPH throws he makes. Texans finally found their guy.
Defensive Player of the Year – DeMarcus Lawrence DE Dallas Cowboys: In 7 games this year he has accumulated more sacks than he had the previous 3 years in the league. He currently sits in the lead for the entire NFL at 10.5 sacks and he shows no signs of slowing down…expect 20+ sacks from him by years end.
Offensive Player of the Year – Todd Gurley HB Los Angeles Rams: Gurley has enjoyed a successful 3rd year in the league with sean Mcvay as Head Coach. Gurley has 5 rushing TDs and 4 Receiving Tds, he is on pace for roughly 375 touches and over 2,000 yards this season…add in the projected 16 TDs and you are looking at a Pro Bowl nod and possible All-Pro selection.
Most Valuable Player: Alex Smith QB Kansas City Chiefs: So the king of “dink and dunk” is all of sudden the leader of a high scoring fast-paced offense. check this stat line out…
– completion percentage 69.1% 3rd in NFL
– passing yards 2,181 2nd in the NFL
– yard per completion 8.4 1st in the NFL
– Passing TDs 16 tied for 2nd in the NFL
– Interceptions 0!
As it sits now the Kansas City Chiefs are headed for a 1st rd bye and that’s why Alex Smith is my MVP at the midpoint of the season.
2018 top 5 Mock Draft: These picks are based who I believe the teams will take and not who I believe they SHOULD take.
1. Cleveland Browns – Josh Rosen QB UCLA
2. New York Giants – Saquon Barkley HB Penn State
3. San Francisco 49ers – Minkah Fitzpatrick DB Alabama
4. Indianapolis Colts – Mike McGlinchey OT Notre Dame
5. Arizona Cardinals – Mason Rudolph QB Oklahoma State
As always let me know what you think and enjoy the rest of the regular season!
