USMNT Struggles with El Salvador

Despite a 2 – 0 victory the United States Men’s National Team has a lot of work ahead of them. Wednesday nights quarterfinal match against El Salvador the “Yanks” constantly found themselves on their heels playing defense every time the ball was turned over.
There were a few shining moments for players like Omar Gonzalez and Eric Lichaj who managed to find the back of the net, unfortunately the rest of the team seemed to be on sleep mode. Though the United States did play poorly they do find themselves in the semifinals, where they will be taking on Costa Rica this Saturday.
The USMNT has been playing good with Bruce Arena at the helm, but will need to show a much better performance against “The Ticos” who are a member of CONCACAF’s “Big Three”. One thing to keep in mind before being too harsh, Arena is using the Gold Cup to sample inexperienced players who can help the team grow and achieve a 2018 World Cup birth.

So lets not lose sight what the USMNT is truly trying to accomplish with this tournament.
