Stanford (9-3) prepares to face off
against UNC (8-4) in the 2016 Sun Bowl, but will be without 2015 Heisman runner-up and playmaker Christian McCaffery, who opted to miss the game to prepare for the upcoming NFL Draft.
Now Carolina will also be without starting back Elija Hood, who will miss due to medical issues. As reported by USA Today, the nature of Hood’s injury was not disclosed, but the Star Running Back was disappointed about missing the teams bowl game. “I am disappointed i cannot be out there with my football brothers.”
As a contrast to his counterpart, Hood is willing to play in a game that was deemed unworthy by Stanford’s McCaffery. No one can fault the player, but it does have to raise some eye brows. How will NFL teams react to a player who gave up on his teammates and school? Perhaps this is a decision that will pain McCaffery in the long-run of his draft stock.
Even with both Running Backs missing the game, it should still set up for a classic, as it was ranked the 16th best bowl game to watch out of a total of 42. UNC and Stanford are very evenly matched. Stanford’s 99th ranked offense takes on UNC’s 69th ranked D. These two teams both boast pretty decent Defenses, so dont expect a high scoring game. I expect UNC to pull out the win 27-24 in an instant classic!
